GRIT

One word for 2025 – GRIT

Yes, it is that time of year again. Time to get comfortable on the couch in all the Hygge vibes with a fuzzy blanket, candles lit and the You Tube fireplace popping in the background. Then in that quietness asking, “What is my word for 2025?”. It was immediate, without hesitation or doubt…

GRIT.

Love that word but I have never explored the depths of it. I am sure we have all heard at one point in our lives someone say, “that person has so much GRIT or he/she is full of GRIT.”  I know I have, and I knew from the context of the conversation that it meant they at least had a lot of determination.

So, what does it mean to HAVE GRIT? Let us explore.

Merrium-Webster defines GRIT as “firmness of mind or spirit: unyielding courage in the face of hardship or danger.”

Psychologist Angela Duckworth describes GRIT  as a combination of passion and perseverance toward long-term goals and has a fabulous 6-Minute TED talk on GRIT I just watched:  Click to watch: GRIT.

This is now on my to buy list: Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance: Duckworth, Angela

It makes sense this word chose me this year and I immediately started inviting its lessons. And boy do I resonate with it! I know GRIT and I have already been long time friends, and it has just been waiting quietly and patiently in the background to pick the right moment to be in the spotlight.

Through all the highs and lows, challenges, and celebrations of 2024, I am excited to share the journey on the road of curiosity in how GRIT has shown up for me in the past and dial in deeper to grow this year in how it will walk beside me in 2025.

Will you choose a word for 2025?
